About the Site

The objective of this website is twofold: first, to find and recommend weekly wines of outstanding quality that cost $25.00 a bottle or less, and second, to discuss thoughts that are essentially about wine and wine related subjects such as food, restaurants, interesting venues, etc. I have no commercial interests in the wine, food or restaurant trades and my opinions aren’t tainted with commercial hype.

The weekly wine selections and other subjects discussed appear (usually on Wednesdays) on the Home page under Jim Gabler Wine & Conversation.

Each week a different Value for Money Wine costing under $10, $15, or $25 a bottle will be evaluated. Many, but not all, of the wine selections can be found in Be Your Own Wine Expert. Unless otherwise mentioned, you can assume that the wines discussed are nationally distributed and the quality consistent from year to year.

The evaluation criteria for a featured wine is simple: it is a wine that tastes better than many wines that cost 2, 3, even 4 times more—a wine you can drink with pleasure and feel confident to serve to anyone. The adage that you get what you pay for doesn't always apply when it comes to the price of a bottle of wine.

The Books menu selection gives titles and descriptions of books I’ve written. My two latest books are e-books, Be Your Own Wine Expert, 99¢ until January 1, 2012, $2.99 thereafter, and God’s Devil, a novel, $2.99.

The menu selection About Jim gives my wine background and availability as a speaker at corporate events and private dinner parties, an activity I very much enjoy.

The menu selection Subscribe describes how to subscribe and unsubscribe.
